The Candy Counter

You had one cousin who lived on a place with a little boy named Andy,
Who came to Suttons Corner sometimes, and he always wished for a candy.

The candy counter was a wondrous place with jars filled up with sweets,
And every little kid who came in wanted one of these special treats.

One time Andy came, when his Dad needed salt blocks for cows to lick,
And Andy came with hopes built high he could trade for a peppermint stick.

He’d worked for some time to get and raise a tiny little chicken,
And he was willing to trade his chick for a peppermint stick for licken.

Mr. Sutton looked at the little chick, and then he looked at Andy.
He said, “I really don’t need that chick, but you can have a candy.”

Well, Andy went home with his face all aglow, and his peppermint stick in his hand,
Holding close his pet chicken, and cherishing the gift from a very generous man.
