Dear Mr. Campbell, It was a real treat to visit your museum last week
with my friend Richard West. I had no idea that your museum existed. Yours is such
a rare find, all the memorabilia from our past, all found in the ruins of Sutton's
Store. The rattle snakes that you describe must have been there to guard the wares of
that by-gone era of American frontier life. During my life, I have traveled to many
places and visited museums in the States and in Europe. Having the curator conduct the
guided tour, made it all come to life. Your passion for this work is evident and you
have made yet another wonderful contribution to preserving out past. This morning,
I spent considerable time reading all the words on your website. You have recorded life
as it was and displayed the artifacts in such a way that it makes one feel as if we had
been there. When I was a young boy, I often visited my maternal grandparents in
rural Randolph County, Georgia, not far from Fort Gaines. They began housekeeping in
1916 and when I was there in the early 50's, the homestead looked about like it must
have when they built the place. My grandfather was a farmer, plowed a single mule and
farmed to support his family. Your museum made me recall seeing the steel traps hanging
on nails on the barn side and all the trappings of horse drawn implements stored around
the barn. It brought back many memories. It is my hope that you can find a
permanent home for this historical collection where it can be enjoyed by many. If not
the State of Georgia, have you thought about the Smithsonian? My best wishes to
you and your family in the future. Cordially, J. Thomas Arthur |
